The Problem

After more than 30 years in the automotive business, I’ve been through enough technology conversations to know when a company is simply trying to sell us software and when they actually care about our dealership.
Before making the switch to Reynolds and Reynolds at Lost Pines Toyota, we were dealing with a lot of disconnected applications and separate vendors that didn’t communicate with each other. It felt like we were constantly trying to manage everything ourselves.
Support wasn’t consistent, communication was lacking, and too often we felt like we were left on our own to figure things out.
One of the biggest frustrations was that we never really felt like we had a partner. We had close to 20 different vendors all operating separately, and nobody seemed to understand how everything needed to work together for the dealership to run efficiently. We were spending too much time managing systems instead of focusing on the business.

Solutions Used

The Solution

When Reynolds came in, the experience immediately felt different. We spent months going through the process together. They met with us more than 15 times, walked through every solution in detail, and demoed each product multiple times so we fully understood what we were getting. This was the first time I felt like a company was truly prepared for every question we had. Every meeting had a purpose, expectations were clear, and the communication stayed consistent from start to finish.
What really stood out to me was that it never felt transactional. The Reynolds team genuinely cared about our business and wanted to understand how we operated before recommending solutions.
That level of preparation and follow-up gave us confidence, especially because making a DMS change is never an easy decision. There’s always concern about disruption, lost productivity, training employees on new systems, and whether the reward will outweigh the risk. Going into the conversion, we expected there to be some temporary slowdown in business because that’s what most dealerships prepare for during a transition like this.
Instead, month one exceeded our expectations.
We actually saw profits and sales increase during the first month after conversion, and there was no loss in business during the transition. A lot of dealers are fearful of making a DMS change because they expect disruption, but that wasn’t our experience.
The implementation process itself reinforced that we made the right decision. The Reynolds onsite team came in prepared and took the time to understand not just our systems, but our people and the unique aspects of our dealership. Relationships formed quickly between our staff and the install team because they were engaged, approachable, and invested in making the process successful. It genuinely felt like they understood our business and why we operated the way we do.
Looking back on the process, the biggest difference for us has been the partnership. We no longer feel like we’re managing a collection of disconnected vendors. We feel like we have a team behind us that’s invested in helping our dealership succeed.
