Earth Day is April 22, but it doesn’t have to come just once a year. It’s easy to build small, sustainable habits into your everyday work routine. With a few simple changes, you can reduce your environmental impact and inspire your coworkers to do the same.
Find a greener way to get to work.
Initiate a carpool routine with teammates to cut down on the number of cars on the road or use public transit if your city has that option. If you live close to your workplace, try walking or biking when the weather is nice. Not only is it better for the earth, but you’ll also get a workout in!
Thrift, swap, and reuse.
Entering the corporate world can be an investment, especially if you don’t already have the necessary clothes in your wardrobe. Before going on a shopping spree, look at secondhand or thrift stores for basic office attire. Once you’re in the office, you can organize a clothing swap with your teammates to keep outfits fresh without adding to landfills.

Bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at the water fountain instead of grabbing plastic cups and keep a nice mug at your desk if your office offers complimentary coffee to cut down on single-use disposables.
Delete digital (and physical) clutter.
Even hoarding unnecessary emails and documents online has an impact. Clearing your inbox and sorting through files reduces the energy used to store them. Just make sure you don’t delete anything important!

Think before you print, as reducing paper usage is one of the easiest ways to minimize your footprint. And if you do need to get rid of paper, try to recycle it.
 Bring nature inside.
Many workplaces allow their associates to decorate their offices and cubicles. Instead of adding a faux succulent to your desk, try bringing in low-maintenance air-purifying plants. If you’re feeling bolder, you can also try growing herbs by windows to create a team garden that everyone can maintain and enjoy.

Small actions add up. By making mindful choices at work, you can help create a more sustainable office every single day.
