Important Changes to Report Scheduler

Reynolds is committed to continually enhancing and supporting a secure, monitored approach to accessing DMS data that best allows dealers to control exporting their data from the ERA® DMS.

Recently, we took the step to prevent unmonitored, automated access by third parties, which can lead to data being extracted from the DMS beyond what dealers realize and sent to end users that dealers may be unaware would receive it.

As an additional step to better protect your DMS data and the personal, confidential information of your customers, we are modifying additional processes used to export data from ERA.

Changes to Report Scheduler

Scheduled, automated download reports that you’ve already built using Report Scheduler will continue to function without interruption.

However, the functionality of adding new reports using Report Scheduler will be removed.

The reason for this step is to begin to mitigate a security risk inherent when third parties attempt to circumvent DMS security and misuse Report Scheduler for uncontrolled access to your data, potentially without your knowledge of all the fields that are being accessed or end users that will receive your data.

This change places more control in your hands over access to your data. It also helps ensure that when data is downloaded to third parties, you have made a conscious decision to do so, you know which data fields are being extracted, and you are aware of the destinations that will receive and use the data.

Other Changes

Separately, when we do detect a security risk in your ERA system, we will add an additional layer of protection by prompting the suspect user to enter random letters and/or numbers as they appear on the screen. This technology is commonly used in other industries where users are attempting to access and export bulk sets of data, or where sensitive data is accessed in banking or online commerce transactions.

Overall, Reynolds continues to provide several options for your business to safely and securely handle data exchange and access:

• Reynolds offers Report Generator (6910).
• Reynolds continues to develop its newest reporting tool, ERA-IGNITE Retail Management Intelligence reporting. This reporting tool can provide an ideal report solution to support your management operations and control of your DMS data. Our best advice is to use Report Generator (6910) or the new ERA-IGNITE Retail Management Intelligence tool for all of your reporting needs.
• Reynolds also offers the Automated Vehicle Inventory Download solution, in which we place your vehicle inventory on your own secure FTP site daily or on an FTP site managed by Reynolds.
• A Reynolds Certified Interface offers your third party vendors a secure, comprehensive solution for complex or time-sensitive data exchanges.
