Change to ERA Allows You Better Control over Automatic Logoff Timeframe
What was changed in the ERA® system?
Recently Reynolds released a change to the ERA system that allows you to set a standard time interval to trigger an automatic logoff (between 5 minutes and 180 minutes) and apply this standard interval to all users in your dealership. You can set this standard time interval in ERA Executable 6230 on line 2. The option for setting the time period to "unlimited" for certain users is no longer available.
Why did Reynolds make this change?
Reynolds is constantly reviewing processes within the ERA system to ensure we continue to meet industry-standard levels of security. We recognized that users should not remain logged in while their system is unattended for extended periods of time. This automatic logoff feature is common in many software applications where secure customer or financial data is accessible.
How did this change impact Reynolds' customers?
We heard your feedback and understand that there are certain users within each dealership that - due to the nature of their role - require a longer period of time than the overall dealership-wide setting to avoid losing work in process due to an automatic logoff.
What is Reynolds doing to alleviate the inconvenience for certain users within your dealership?
Based upon your feedback we have released an update to the system to allow you to identify User IDs that need a different automatic logoff time than what was set dealership-wide in ERA Executable 6230. This will allow you to specify a standard across the dealership but handle individual users on a case-by-case basis and apply exceptions as appropriate. The update will allow you to change User IDs in ERA Executable 6210 on line 10 to a different automatic logoff time not to exceed 180 minutes.
By maintaining a maximum time of 180 minutes, the system will still be in line with industry-standard practices for systems that access financial and personally identifiable information.
