Reynolds and Reynolds Announces 2009 Scholarship Recipients;
Company Foundation Funds 33 Merit Scholarships for 2009-2010 Academic Year
- The Reynolds and Reynolds Company today announced it has awarded a record number of college scholarships for the upcoming school year through programs sponsored by the Reynolds and Reynolds Company Foundation. The majority of the scholarships were granted under a long-standing program of merit-based awards for undergraduate study by children of Reynolds associates. Additionally, this spring Reynolds inaugurated a new series of merit scholarships: the Reynolds and Reynolds Leadership Scholars Program at Wright State University.
Overall, the Foundation sponsored 33 separate scholarships for the coming academic year; more than 20 were awarded to students from Ohio, with the majority in the greater Dayton area.
"Over the past several years, the Reynolds and Reynolds Company Foundation has directed more of its giving to higher education," said Willie Daughters, vice president of Software Support at Reynolds and a Foundation trustee. "In particular, we've added substantially to the number of students we support through scholarships. We all recognize the role higher education can play in the lives of young adults and how scholarships can make a lasting contribution long after a single grant has been awarded. The Foundation gives us the opportunity to make an ongoing investment in talented young people, with much of that talent here in the Dayton region."
- The centerpiece of the Foundation's giving is a scholarship program geared toward assisting the college-age children of Reynolds associates with their undergraduate studies. The scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, as well as extracurricular and community involvement. This year, more than 25 children of associates from around the company were awarded scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. This Reynolds scholarship program has been in place for 20 years.
- In 2009, the company also established the Reynolds and Reynolds Leadership Scholars Program at Wright State University. The new program provides scholarships for students entering Wright State's College of Engineering and Computer Science. This year, five scholarships were awarded at Wright State. The scholarships are renewable throughout a student's undergraduate career and, eventually, Reynolds expects to support up to 20 Leadership Scholars annually at Wright State.
- Reynolds and Reynolds also has established a merit-based scholarship program to assist full-time undergraduate students at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where the company operates one of its major facilities. This year, three scholarships were awarded at Texas A&M.
